Louis XIII Hydro-Alcoholic Stain is an exclusive, high-quality formula designed for staining wood both indoors and outdoors. Easy to apply, it penetrates deeply without raising the wood grain thanks to the addition of resin, providing a uniform finish that perfectly enhances the natural grain of the wood. Compatible with all finishes (varnish, floor sealer, wax, stain), it is ideal for enhancing your furniture, woodwork, parquet floors, or exterior joinery. This new formula has been merged with the former Alcohol-Based Wood Stain, with some shades, such as Rustic Oak, possibly still being offered in the old packaging.

How do I apply Louis XIII Cabinetmaking Stain?

1. Preparation: Shake the bottle vigorously to homogenize the pigments.
2. Application: Apply the stain using a cotton wick, carefully following the grain of the wood.
3. Drying & Intensity: Wait at least 1 hour. If you desire a deeper color, proceed with a second application.
4. Finishing: Let the stain stabilize for 4 hours before applying your varnish, wax, or floor sealer.

Surface preparation for optimal results:

Before any application, ensure the wood is raw, clean, and perfectly dry. Thorough sanding and rigorous dusting are essential.

• On waxed wood: Remove old layers with Louis XIII Wax Remover and #2 steel wool. Follow up with Louis XIII Cabinetmaker’s Stripper, then rinse. Finish with fine sanding.
• On varnished wood: Strip the wood down to the bare surface using Louis XIII Cabinetmaker’s Stripper and #2 steel wool. Rinse thoroughly before fine sanding.
• On blackened or grayed wood: Restore brightness with Louis XIII Wood Lightener. Rinse, then proceed with sanding and dusting.
• On red exotic wood: Use Louis XIII Red Wood Bleach. After a thorough rinse, sand with a fine grit.
• New or bare wood: sand with fine grit (180 then 220), then dust off.

 Treatment of localized stains:

• Non-greasy stains (wine, coffee, blood, ink, rust): Use Louis XIII Wood Lightener. Carefully rinse the area, then lightly sand before dusting.
• Greasy stains: Clean first with Louis XIII Degreasing Cleaner, then sprinkle with AVEL Terre de Sommières. After it has dried completely, brush, sand lightly, and dust.
